leaving

how sad is it that even as a bona fide civil servant (not just a civil-servant-to-be anymore), i spend huge chunks of my time thinking about what i want to do when i'm done with my term of servitude? [not that it will be done anytime soon.]

and now, the possibilities stretch before me - like an open road, a powerful car, and my music blaring on the stereo - what will i be tomorrow?

i think this blogspot journal might just abt have reached the end of its useful lifespan. it'll stay up, of course, but...look over at the LJ if you want updates. otherwise, it's been nice knowing you, and of course, so long and thanks for all the fish.

election results are out

once more,

It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

it is, after all, springtime.

i'd forgotten the beauty of language.

Winter Spring

A script of trees before the hill
Spells cold, with laden serifs; all the walls
Are battlemented still;
But winter spring is winnowing the air
Of chill, and crawls
Wet-sparkling on the gutters;
Everywhere
Walls wince, and there's the steal of waters.

Now all this proud royaume
Is Veniced. Through the drift's mined dome
One sees the rowdy rusted grass,
And we're amazed as windows stricken bright.
This too-soon spring will pass
Perhaps tonight,
And doubtless it is dangerous to love
This somersault of seasons;
But I am weary of
The winter way of loving things for reasons.

it's amazing - i still remember how to log into blogger. :p yes, i know, there has been perilous radio silence on this blog since CNY, although i've been sporadically updating the LJ (check there, i tell you, that's where the good stuff is). so - i'm still alive, peeps, mostly. work continues to be stressful, alternating between stressful-because-important, and stressful-because-full-of-stupid-details-no-one-gives-a-shit-abt-except-Finance. -sigh- next week is going to be filled with the latter, i suspect.

but never mind that, because i am going to put work out of mind for four days, and vacation away in Sydney! (with my cell on roaming. :p) so - i'm back, but i'm off again - i may update from Sydney, who knows. but i'm still here. :)

Happy Lunar New Year

let me first say:

Happy Chinese New Year! to one and all. :)

you know, i've been updating the LJ more often than this blog, lately - i don't know why - maybe it's the convenience of the LJ's Friends page. so if you are really interested in what i am up to these days, the LJ is probably a better place to look. but we'll see.

Chinese New Year. it's really good to be home for Chinese New Year - it's the first time in four years - but so much has changed over the last four years. yes, the family visiting is still the same - we still start with my dad's older brother, and then move on to my grandpa, and on the second day my extended family on my dad's side descends on our house. but all the other visiting that i remember, that we used to do, has been truncated, reallocated slots or just dropped altogether, and i find disconcertingly large slots of free time hangin' about in our CNY visiting schedules. (which means that we get to come home and take a nap, not necessarily a bad thing. especially when you have a huge sleep debt, like me.) but -mostly because of the ex-chiefs' reception today- we are not traipsing about to one another's houses nearly as much; and i haven't seen the other navy kids at all! (though admittedly that is partly because, well, we're mostly all grown up and scattered to the four winds now.)

so it's familiar, but not familiar at the same time, which is really disconcerting, and sort of strange. ah well, she says, times change, and people with them.

it's nice to know some things never change, though. i'm on laundry duty this week, since my maid is on Chinese New Year home leave, and this morning i managed to dye one of my tshirts violently pink, and gently tint the rest of the load of clothes i washed this morning...damn red shirts and their lack of colour-fast dyes! :)
